Melbourne is set for its best day in months, with a forecast top of 26 degrees on Thursday.

But don’t get used to the warm weather.

The rain and cold is expected to return.

‘We’re expecting this above average rainfall to continue for at least the next few months – which some people in the city say is a bit of bad news – but it delays the fire season in rural areas for a few months, which is a positive,’ climatologist Dr David Jones told Ross and John.

‘Temperatures, unfortunately, will probably continue to be a bit below average.’
