The millennium drought is over … And Melbourne, you’re really good at saving water!

The Australian reports on Tuesday residents in Melbourne and Brisbane are continuing with their water saving habits.

Monash University Associate Professor Jo Lindsay has told 3AW’s Justin and Kate Melbournians have been able to change the way that they manage their water reasonably effectively.

“The drought was a really a serious crisis here in Melbourne, it was seared into the public’s imagination,” said Prof Lindsay.

“We have changed what we do, people have put tanks in, changed some of the plants in their gardens, that is what’s made a difference.

“There was really good consensus that we all needed to work together.”

Professor Lindsay also compared Perth’s water saving efforts to Melbourne saying that the water board have concentrated on technical solutions instead, and are not saving as much water as Melbourne.
