Melbourne University Student Union votes to change ‘wom*n’ spelling back to woman.

The use of the asterisk has been a traditional feminist practice for decades to distinguish the word from any male link.

Tom Elliott spoke with Dr Lauren Rosewarne, a senior lecturer in Gender Studies at Melbourne University.

‘Interest in these topics at university is giving you (students) a disproportionate sense of how important it is outside of universities.’

‘That doesn’t mean it’s unimportant.’
