A Melbourne woman has been collecting 5 cent coins since 1993.

Instead of treating herself to a trip, a new handbag or a night out…she’s donating her hard earned to charity.

It’s going to a Melbourne charity, Y Generation Against Poverty, which actually collects 5 cent coins to children’s education.

Catherine Boston spoke to Neil Mitchell this morning and told him she was 12 when she started collecting the coins.

‘It’s been a long while,’ she said.

‘It’s amazing how small (the collection) is.’

Despite there being more than 4000 coins, the grand total only amounts to $207.95.
