Melton Mayor Goran Kesic has called on the federal and state government to urgently fund six major road projects within the council’s boundaries.

It’s part of a new campaign launched by the City of Melton highlighting it’s increasingly congested highways as its population booms.

They include upgrades to Western Highway, Melton Highway, and duplication of Christie’s Road and Hopkins Road.

Mayor Goran Kesic told Tom Elliott, filling in for Neil Mitchell on 3AW Mornings, some of the roads are becoming increasingly unsafe.

“In between 2014 and 2020 across these six roads we had nine fatalities and safety issues,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“154 serious injury crashes, 477 crashes resulting in injuries, so they really need to do that.”
