Memorial mass for Bishop Ronald Mulkearns cancelled due to anger

A memorial mass planned for former Ballarat Bishop Ronald Mulkearns has been cancelled.

It follows fierce criticism from victims of abuse and 3AW Drive host Tom Elliott.

Mulkearns, who died of cancer last month, had confessed to the Royal Commission he knew paedophile priests were sexually abusing children in his diocese but moved them between parishes.

He also destroyed documents in Gerald Ridsdale’s file.

Tom Elliott said last week the planned memorial was ‘disgusting’ and showed the Catholic Church still didn’t get it.
