Midfield the key for Prestia move

Richmond recruit Dion Prestia says the idea of joining Tigers’ midfield group was a key aspect in his decision to join the club.

Having grown up in Melbourne, Prestia wanted to move back to his home state and once his decision to come home was made, it was a matter of which club he chose to play with.

There were offers from multiple clubs in Melbourne, but the Tigers won out.

‘It was probably their midfield mostly that I was really attracted to,’ Prestia told Sports Today.

‘Just being able to play with their elite midfielders that they already have there like Cotchin and Martin.’

‘When I met with them it was that core midfield group that they showed me, just to be a part of that and a part of the club I’m really excited about.’

Prestia says he hopes to bring his leadership qualities to the Tigers as well.

The former Gold Coast Sun admits he enjoyed his time in Queensland, particularly being away from the AFL spotlight due to the local interest in rugby.

‘I love that side of it. You didn’t really hear much, you were able to hide away a bit,’ Prestia said.

‘To play up there it was a great lifestyle.’

However he knows that he needs to be ready to enter the AFL bubble in Melbourne.
