Midnight Oil biographer explains what made the iconic rock band so special
Midnight Oil were destined to take the world by storm.
However, it seems the only people that didn’t like them were their own record label.
Michael Lawrence, who has written a new book on the Oils, told Denis Walter the band didn’t play ‘the game’ the way key industry players would have liked.
‘They did things their way,’ Mr Lawrence said.
‘There’d be an American record company saying ‘we’ve just had a top ten album, we’ve got to capitalise,’ and they’d choose to take a break.
‘I don’t think that won them any fans in their own record company.’
