A $1 million reward has been posted to help solve the suspicious disappearance of a 15-year-old girl in Melbourne’s east more than two decades ago.

Cherie Westell last spoke to a family member from a telephone box following a dentist appointment in Wantirna South on Tuesday, 12 December 2000.

The Mooroolbark girl said she intended to catch a train home from Ringwood, but hasn’t been heard from since.

Her previous foster mother tried to make a police report but was told a biological family member was required, so it took six days for the investigation to begin.

A coronial inquest in 2003 found Cherie likely died and police are treating her disappearance as suspicious.

The Missing Persons Squad has today announced a million dollar reward in the hope that someone will finally help give Cherie Westell’s loved ones the answers they deserve.
