Millions raised to back independent candidates wanting action on climate, integrity and gender
The son of Australia’s first billionaire is helping drive a campaign to help fund independent political candidates who are committed to “dealing with some of the issues” those from major parties are not.
Simon Holmes à Court said Climate 200 was focusing on three key issues – a science-based response to climate change, restoring integrity in parliament (removing those involved in scandals), and gender equity.
“There is a real groundswell around Australia for these independents who are giving us a chance to deal with some of the issues that Australia has really struggled to deal with over the past decade,” he told Tom Elliott.
He said the group was not a party itself and the funds came with no strings attached.
“We wait for good campaigns to come to us,” he said.
