The Minister for Equality has defended the allocation of $15m for a Gay Pride Centre.

Minister Martin Foley told Tom Elliott it will recognise those excluded by mainstream society.

‘There’s recognition that, within the broad community, there’s a place for everybody,’ Mr Foley said.

‘When that community has been excluded, when they have some of the highest rates of suicide of any sector of our community, surely an investment like this is important.’

But Tom isn’t convinced.

‘I have a problem with this idea that the best way to have a socially cohesive society is to give every little group its own place.’
