All-rounder Mitch Marsh says he jokingly “squashed” the prospect of replacing David Warner as Australia’s opener in the Test team.

South Australia captain Nathan McSweeney will partner Usman Khawaja at the top of the order when the Aussies take on India in the first Test at Optus Stadium.

Marsh told Wide World of Sports he still loves batting at six, saying he never had any interest in shuffling up the batting order.

“I’ve loved the role of batting at six since coming back into the Test team.

“It allows me to play my attacking game, there was a lot of talk about opening and I squashed that behind the scenes.”
