WORD ON THE STREET

Monash Council has called on the state government to ensure smoking is 100 per cent banned in outdoor areas of cafes and restaurants at all times.

City of Monash Mayor Geoff Lake told Tom Elliott on Tuesday there was a loophole currently being exploited.

‘I think it’s important that it happens as quickly as possible,’ Mr Lake said on 3AW Drive.

‘We know that 70 per cent of our community wants to get the impact of passive smoke out of public spaces where people are eating and drinking.

‘For a long time now Eaton Mall has been like walking through a chimney.’
