CORONAVIRUS LATEST

Moorabool Shire will enter a seven-day snap lockdown at 11.59pm tonight.

The regional local government area will be subject to the same rules as those in Melbourne, except for the curfew.

It comes after six new COVID-19 cases were detected in Moorabool Shire today, bringing the number of active cases in the area to 32.

Additional testing sites will be set up in the area to cope with increased demand.

“On advice and careful analysis that’s been done of the number of cases in that local government area, it is unavoidable that a lockdown must be applied to that community,” Premier Daniel Andrews said while announcing the lockdown.

*Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the lockdown in Moorabool Shire would begin at 7pm.
