Former Victorian Premier, Jeff Kennett, says he believes it was the correct time for Daniel Andrews to step down from the role of Victorian premier.

He also says time will tell what Daniel Andrews’ legacy will.

“I often say it’s not where you start that’s important, it’s where you finish, and Mr Andrews’ legacy will be decided by us, over the next few months and years and maybe as far as 20 years,” he told Tom Elliott.

He also says Victoria’s period of debt will be worse than when he took over the position in 1992.

“We got the help of Prime Minister Paul Keating and we had to borrow $1 billion to restructure government,” he said.

Steve Bracks, a former Premier of Victoria, says the labor party could determine Daniel Andrews’ replacement as soon as midday tomorrow.

He says current deputy leader, Jacinta Allan is a strong contender to replace Andrews.

“They’ve got a pretty talented front bench, there’s a few others who could bob their head up, but I suspect that could be the case here,” he said .

He also discussed Andrews’ commitment to building infrastructure.

“These are key projects that are about trying to cater for a growing population and making sure you get ahead of that … that will probably go down as his biggest legacy,” he said.
