More than 12,000 homes without power after wild winds lash Melbourne
Damaging wind gusts have brought down trees onto roads, powerlines and homes in parts of Melbourne overnight.
Gusts of up to 128 kilometres an hour have been recorded at Fawkner beacon, 82 kilometres an hour at Melbourne Airport and almost 60 km/h in the city.
More than 12,000 are without power, most of them east of Melbourne.
Gabriel Branescu, Senior Meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology says conditions were windiest from midnight to about 2am.
“Since then the wind has started to ease off,” he told Ross and Russel.
