More than 50 mafia families under investigation in Australia
Federal police are launching a major assault on the mafia in Australia, with more than 50 families under investigation.
AFP has been mapping the family tree of clans operating in Australia, charting marriages and associates and revealing the true extent of organised crime.
As many as 5000 members of the mafia have been identified.
They are accused of smuggling tonnes of illicit drugs into the country, and washing billions of dollars in “dirty money” through the economy.
It’s believed they are working closely with Middle Eastern crime gangs, Asian triads, South American cartels and outlaw bikie gangs.
