New figures have revealed most Victorian parents are avoiding sending their kids to their local neighbourhood school.

And it’s been branded a disaster by Professor John Hattie, Director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute at the University of Melbourne

“I think it’s a disastrous thing,” he told Ross and John.

“It’s a myth that it’s a school that makes the difference when it’s the teacher that makes the difference.

“They choose schools based on the the friends they want their kids to have – that’s the major reason they go about their school shopping.

“It just means they’ve been misled and are maybe actually causing damage to their kid.”
