Mother left ‘traumatised’ by MCG evacuation scare, calls for process to be reviewed
A mother says she’s been left traumatised by the MCG’s evacuation scare on Saturday.
Fans want the MCG to review their processes as a result.
Krystal told Neil Mitchell she was at the game with her husband and two children.
They were separated when the evacuation siren went off and fans began heading for the exits en masse.
“What I’m upset about is that over some little fire, it left people crying,” she said.
“It was traumatising.”

Peter said he was forced to crawl under the turnstile because it wouldn’t allow fans to exit the ground.

The MCC said a sprinkler activated in a food outlet on Level 4 of the Ponsford Stand sparked the alarm.
In “usual circumstances” the alarm system would have been isolated by operators and the automated evacuation procedure suspended once it was found to pose no risk to patrons.
A full MCC review will be conducted to “understand why the automated evacuation of the venue was not suspended”.
“The MCC sincerely apologises to members, patrons, the competing Clubs and AFL for the disruption to the match,” the MCC said in a statement.
