A woman has been found dead following a crash involving at least five cars on the Monash Freeway.

No other injuries have been reported following the serious collision near Stud Road, which happened around 7.45am.

Traffic has been heavily impacted as all city bound lanes of the Monash will remain closed for some time.

Police have confirmed a woman, aged in her 50s, is dead.

But she may have died from a medical condition prior to the crash.

Steve Bean from VicRoads told Neil Mitchell delays would continue for some time.
