A mother whose son was ambushed and beaten by a group of men on New Year’s Eve is waging war on the escalating violence on Melbourne’s streets.

Judith tells 3AW’s Tony Jones her 20-year-old son was walking through Swanston Street when he was confronted by a gang who appeared to be of Sudanese appearance and severely bashed, suffering blows to the back of the head and face.

She says she’s taking action by reaching out to those communities and the government.

‘They are programmed in their brains for hyper vigilance, hyper arousal and violence. I want to know what our government is doing to address this issue.’

Judith says, ‘We know that these young people need long term therapeutic intervention to change those pethways.’
