Mother provides candid insight into what it’s like parenting a youth offender

A mother has expressed her frustration with parts of the justice system after her son fell into the wrong crowd and became a youth offender in recent years.

Jessica says she copped backlash from the community about her parenting during the ordeal, saying she was grateful her son – who was charged over 130 times – had turned his life around.

“He is a good kid and he’s come through it,” she said on 3AW Drive.

“The reality is – maybe if he went to (juvenile detention), it may have made things worse.”
