Car manufacturing in Australia is still alive.

Since the announcement that three major car manufacturers will cease to mass produce their cars in Australia, there’s still companies manufacturing vehicles locally.

Made in Melbourne, Tomcar Australia manufacture specialist ATV vehicles for the agricultural, mining and defense industries.

Speaking to 3AW Drive, co-founder and CEO David Brim says there is still a future for the Australian manufacturing industry.

‘We need to be more like Switzerland where we manufacture products that no one else can make, high quality, high value-add.’ he said.

‘Australia’s a very fragmented competitive market, there’s over 50 car brands alone so they’d never get the volume.’

‘For us we are a niche manufacturer, we build to order…we don’t have thousands of vehicles backed up in dealer’s yards.’ he said.
