A man has allegedly driven a motorbike more than 170 kilometres under the influence of alcohol on his way home from the Phillip Island Grand Prix.

Police stopped the rider at Rosedale – approximately 174km from Phillip Island – at 10.20am on Monday morning.

A 38-year-old man allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.102 per cent.

The male rider said he was riding home to Wollongong in NSW.

His bike was immediately impounded at a cost of $877 and he is expected to be charged on summons for drink driving.
