Motoring journalist labels the closure of Ford’s plant ‘sad but inevitable’

Motoring journalist Glenn Butler has branded the closure of Ford’s plant ‘sad, but inevitable’.  

After 91-years, Ford today closed its Broadmeadows and Geelong plants.

Mr Butler, the editor of Wheels magazine, told Tom Elliott the Australian plant couldn’t keep up with technological advancement.

‘The development pace of Falcon has not kept with the development pace of imported cars,’ he said.

Mr Butler said the ‘tyranny of distance’ Australia experiences meant Ford could never export enough cars to keep up a sufficient budget for research and development.
