‘Mr Little, don’t appoint Woosha’: Jeff Kennett’s Worsfold warning to Essendon
Jeff Kennett says appointing John Worsfold as coach of Essendon would be a ‘terrible mistake’.
Despite Essendon’s protestations about ‘processes’ still to take place, Worsfold is hotly tipped to be the Bombers’ next coach.
But the man who oversaw Hawthorn’s remarkable re-emergence as an AFL powerhouse said that would not be a good idea.
‘I actually think … Essendon are on the verge of making a terrible mistake,’ he said on 3AW Breakfast.
‘If I am looking for a new coach or CEO, I don’t look for another person who is a CEO or a coach – I look for someone in a 2IC position, as Alastair Clarkson was, as Stuart Fox was.
‘If you’re listening, Mr (Paul) Little – this is just a piece of friendly advice – for goodness sake, if you want to rebuild Essendon, actually look around for an excellent 2IC at a club you respect.’
Mr Kennett was supported by Robert Walls, when the duo joined Tony Leonard and John Burns to talk footy on 3AW Breakfast this morning.
