Mum, kids and family cat escape fire at Templestowe

A mother, two children and their family cat have escaped unharmed after a fire at Templestowe.

Fire crews say a smoke alarm activated around 7am on Tuesday morning.

They brought the blaze under control within about 15 minutes.

An electrical fault in the oven appears to be to blame.
