NEIL MITCHELL EXCLUSIVE

The mother of one of the Year 9 girls involved in an ugly schoolyard brawl at Eltham North says her daughter was simply defending herself.

Vision of yesterday’s brawl via the Herald Sun shows the two teenagers punching and kicking each other before one of them chokes the other and throws her to the ground.

The 14-year-old was then taken to hospital as a precaution.

Both students have been suspended with police now investigating.

A woman, claiming to be the mother of the girl who wasn’t taken to hospital, told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell her daughter had recently transferred from another school after being a victim of bullying.

She said “it’s not quite as clear-cut as the video shows”, and was happy with how the investigation was unfolding.

“We commend the school and the way they are dealing with it,” she said.

“(My daughter is) very, very bruised and very sore,” she said. “She’s black and blue as well.”

“As a parent I’m disgusted, I’m appalled. I’m just horrified to watch that.”
