The mother of a man who died after undergoing extensive plastic surgery in Malaysia has pleaded with others considering a ‘cheap fix’ overseas to think again.

Leigh Aiple, 31, died just hours after returning to Australia following eight operations in the space of five weeks.

His mother, Grace Muscat, told Neil Mitchell her son ‘blacked out’ just three days before he was due to fly back.

He was still given medical clearance to get on a plane.

‘I just want people to open up their eyes,’ an emotional Ms Muscat said on 3AW.

‘I want them to understand.

‘They’re so anxious to get their bodies looking in a way to, I don’t know, please themselves, somebody else, society?

‘It’s cheap, it’s a quick fix.

‘We have a great system in Australia.’
