Myki revamp on the cards
Listen: Trevor Long breaks down the technology for 3AW Breakfast
There’s plans to alter the way Victorians pay for public transport, as the troubled Myki system faces an overhaul.
The revamp could see passengers touch on with credit cards, smartphones and even smart watches, via Google Wallet and Apple Pay.
Myki cost taxpayers $1.5 billion and a new contract to run the system is due to start in 2017.
The Opposition’s David Hodgett says the government must get it right this time.
‘Show some initiative, show some leadership,’ he told 3AW News this morning.
‘Get these companies to put in new technologies and give some flexibility of use with the Myki card.’
A new contract to run the system is due to start in 2017.
