Myki to introduce ‘tap’ technology to top-up public transport cards

New technology should help reduce long queues at Myki ticketing machines.

The units, to be installed this year, will allow people to buy or top-up their Myki with a simple tap of their credit card, rather than the lengthy current process.

Tony Morton from the Public Transport Users Association told 3AW there was a great deal of frustration involved when buying or topping up.

‘It can be a problem, when you have a lot of people trying to top-up at these machines, especially when you’re doing it with EFTPOS,’ he said.
