WorkSafe has alarmingly revealed that rides at small events at school fairs and regional shows aren’t regularly inspected for safety.

The safety of rides at amusement parks has come under the spotlight following Tuesday’s tragic incident at Dreamworld which killed four people.

Neil Mitchell spoke with Marnie Williams, executive director of health and safety and WorkSafe.

While attractions at the Royal Melbourne Show and Moomba were regularly inspected, she revealed it was often up to the public to complain if they had a concern with safety at smaller events.

Neil Mitchell: ‘So the system is reactive, not proactive?

Ms Williams: ‘Yes.’

Neil: ‘Oh… Is that good enough?’

Ms Williams: ‘I’m confident we’re doing everything we can to ensure that nothing like this ever happens in Victoria.’
