Neil Mitchell says the controversy surrounding comments made by Eddie McGuire and James Brayshaw highlights the ‘awful conflict of interest’ they have by working in media.

He said the Collingwood president and North Melbourne chairman shouldn’t be on radio.

The 3AW Mornings host revealed he had once been sounded out about the possibility of him running for president at Melbourne, but situations like this week reinforced why he didn’t.

‘I don’t believe that a person who works in media as a commentator should be club official,’ Neil Mitchell said.

‘I don’t think they should work for the AFL, or be a club official.

‘Many years ago, before Jim Stynes became president of the Melbourne footy club, I was sounded out ? by Jim, in fact ? about the possibility about being president.

‘I thought one, I don’t have the time … but secondly, there’s an awful conflict of interest.’
