Neil Mitchell clashes with Shooters Party member over lever-action shotguns
Gun control is back on the agenda after Senator David Leyonhjelm demanded the government relax restrictions on the Adler A110.
The Senator wants restrictions on the powerful lever-action shotgun dropped in return for his vote on union-curbing legislation.
Security agencies and police claim the gun is a clear threat to public safety, and Neil Mitchell thinks that should be enough to keep restrictions on it.
But State MP Jeff Bourman said their opinion is not based on evidence.
‘All I need to change my mind is some sort of evidence other than ‘this might happen’,’ the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party member said.
Mr Bourman, a former policeman himself, said the advice was written by bureaucrats who are too far removed from the street.
