Neil Mitchell has called for action after an online video surfaced justifying domestic violence in the Muslim community.

The 30-minute video, posted by women of Hizb ut-Tahrir, said a man was allowed to strike his wife as a ‘symbolic act.’

‘Not in this country,’ Neil Mitchell said.

‘Never.’

Dr Susan Carland is a researcher at the National Centre for Australian Studies and condemned the video.

‘We cannot be entertaining this sort of talk,’ she said.

However, she said it was important to stress this was clearly the view of a ‘small minority.’

‘There were only 26 women at this event,’ Dr Carland said.

‘It’s really important that it’s never presented that this is somehow the mainstream opinion.

‘There is domestic violence in every community, sadly.’
