Less Victorians are being caught speeding.

There’s been a whopping nine per cent drop in fines issued by Victoria’s top 50 cameras compared to last year.

There’s been an overall drop of 2.5 per cent in the first quarter of this year compared to 2015.

But is it because drivers are actually slowing down, or because it’s become easier to know where the cameras are placed?

‘It’s probably a mix of both,’ Police Minister Lisa Neville told Neil Mitchell.

‘But we’re seeing a year-on-year decrease and that’s a positive sign.’

While there’s been a significant overall drop, the number of people being caught speeding more than 40 kilometres over the limit has disturbingly soared by 20 per cent.

Ms Neville said that may be contributing to Victoria’s shocking road toll in 2016.
