Neil Mitchell listeners start campaign to support Jarryd Roughead
Footy fans are planning to stand up and applaud in support of Jarryd Roughead during Friday night’s blockbuster between Hawthorn and Sydney.
Neil Mitchell listeners have helped start a campaign in support of the much-loved Hawk, who has suffered a melanoma recurrence and been ruled out of footy indefinitely.
Linda told Neil Mitchell fans were planning on standing up and clapping at the second minute mark of the second quarter – Roughead’s guernsey number is two.
‘Not just for Jarryd, but for everybody going through this hideous disease,’ she explained.
State Opposition leader Matthew Guy agrees it’s a good idea, as does footy broadcaster Stephen Quartermain.
Some other suggestions from listeners include…
- Wearing orange armbands or ribbons.
- Wearing zinc for melanoma awareness.
- Coloured shoelaces for the players.
