Neil Mitchell has questioned Melbourne’s biggest papers over their front page stories on Monday.

The Herald Sun and The Age both featured articles on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull going to a lunch almost a decade ago that was also attended by slain mafia lawyer Joe Acquaro.

?Mr Acquaro was shot outside his Brunswick gelato bar in March.

Neil Mitchell questioned its relevance.

‘The ultimate inference here is that Malcolm Turnbull is somehow crooked by doing this ? that’s nonsense,’ the 3AW Mornings host said on Monday.

‘But the papers say they’re not claiming he did anything wrong ? so why is it a story?’

Neil Mitchell said there were far more important issues to discuss leading into the election.

He spoke with former senator Amanda Vanstone about the issue and other matters.
