Neil Mitchell reacts to Jason Roberts being found not guilty of police murders
Neil Mitchell has expressed shock after Jason Roberts was found not guilty of the 1998 murders of police officers Gary Silk and Rodney Miller.
Roberts was convicted of the murders in 2002 but in 2020 the Court of Appeal quashed the verdict and granted a re-trial.
He always claimed he wasn’t there that night.
The four-month re-trial heard from more than 90 witnesses, including convicted killer Bandali Debs who gave evidence against him.
Neil Mitchell said the news would stun police, past and present.
“It is a staggering decision,” he said.
“It is an absolutely staggering decision and it will cause much disquiet within the ranks of the police force, but the jury has spoken.”
