Neil Mitchell says drug takers and dance festival organisers need to be made accountable for medical treatment
Neil Mitchell says the ‘self-indulgent, drug-addled idiots’ who ‘clogged’ Melbourne’s emergency departments on Saturday night need to be made accountable for their actions.
And so do those who organised the event.
More than 20 people ended up in hospital after taking what was believed to be the synthetic drug GHB at the Electric Parade music festival.
‘What about this for an idea? Charge them,’ Neil Mitchell said on Monday.
‘Charge them for the treatment.
‘More than that, send a bill to the organisers of the dance party.
‘It is your job, if you’re going to have this event, to make sure that it’s safe and drug free.
‘You didn’t and all these people ended up in hospital ? you pay the bill.
‘That might threaten their bottom line and focus their mind.’
Dr Helen Stergiou from The Alfred hospital said it wasn’t the worst idea.
