Neil Mitchell has slammed excessive costs of private health as a ‘rort’.
For instance, a pacemaker costs $1,920 in the public system, but $11,440 privately.
That’s 496 per cent more.
And adding a minor procedure onto an operation can cost up to $20,000 for the extra half hour in the theatre.
‘This smells like a rort, it walks like a rort. Why isn’t it a rort?’ Neil said.
Dr Rachel David from Private Healthcare Australia told Neil it’s something the industry is addressing.
