Neil Mitchell says excessive costs of private health are a ‘rort’

Neil Mitchell has slammed excessive costs of private health as a ‘rort’.

For instance, a pacemaker costs $1,920 in the public system, but $11,440 privately.

That’s 496 per cent more.

And adding a minor procedure onto an operation can cost up to $20,000 for the extra half hour in the theatre.

‘This smells like a rort, it walks like a rort. Why isn’t it a rort?’ Neil said.

Dr Rachel David from Private Healthcare Australia told Neil it’s something the industry is addressing.
