Neil Mitchell slams Keysar Trad over controversial comments about domestic violence

Neil Mitchell has slammed a ‘moderate’ Muslim leader who said violence towards women was an acceptable ‘last resort’ for a husband.

But Keysar Trad says that’s not what he meant.

The President of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils found himself in hot water over the comments he made on Wednesday night.

Neil Mitchell said he needed a reality check.

‘Not in this country, mate,’ the 3AW Mornings host said.

‘They tell me to be tolerant of other cultures and other approaches.

‘Violence towards a woman is never a resort, is never acceptable.’

Mr Trad said he had explained himself poorly.

‘I agree it’s never an option,’ he said on 3AW Mornings.

‘Perhaps I should have chosen better words.’
