Neil Mitchell: The ‘crucial’ figure which suggests Victoria will be ‘the rebellion state’ this election
Neil Mitchell says if recent polls are right, Victoria is shaping up to be “the state of rebellion”.
According to the most recent Roy Morgan federal election poll, more than a third of Victorians — 35.8 per cent — will vote independent or Green.
About one-in-four Victorians — 25.3 per cent — will vote independent, according to the poll.
“That’s a massive figure, it’s a crucial figure,” Neil Mitchell said.
“The latest polls show that Victorians, in huge numbers … are rejecting both major parties for this election.
“On several polls today, neither Labor or Liberal can be called the winner. Both would struggle to form government without independents or Greens.
“I have called independents wackos and fringe dwellers in the past. Now of course they’re not all that.
“But a minority government can be chaotic government, indecisive government, heavily influenced by sectional interests, having to negotiate to get anything through.
“If these polls are right we are on the verge of what could be a very messy period of government.”
