Neil Mitchell: The ‘real problem’ Matthew Guy is facing
Neil Mitchell says Victorian opposition leader Matthew Guy is facing a “real problem” coming from within his own party.
Mr Guy’s chief of staff, Mitch Catlin, quit yesterday after leaked documents revealed he had asked a wealthy Liberal Party donor to make more than $100,000 in payments to his private marketing business on top of his taxpayer-funded salary.
The Age reports Mr Catlin emailed the proposed agreement to Mr Guy’s private Hotmail address.
“The state opposition leader has got a bomb thrower in the trenches,” Neil Mitchell said.
“Somebody on his own side wants him to lose the election.
“That’s the only explanation for how an email to his personal account becomes public. Unless somebody has hacked into it, which nobody is alleging.
“If they can throw one bomb they can throw more.
“That’s his real problem now.”
