It was a high-powered press conference with lots of hard hats and a good news story for the government.

And Neil Mitchell says it was a complete “waste of energy”.

Premier Daniel Andrews and frontbenchers Jacinta Allan and Martin Foley were there, along with every major media outlet including 3AW.

The big announcement?

Travel time reductions of up to 50 minutes every day thanks to the Metro Rail project — in five years.

Much of the detail was already public in the project’s business case.

“That is a waste of energy,” Neil Mitchell said.
