Neil Mitchell: Tim Smith is a ‘dangerous idiot’ but ‘bloodlust’ is unfair

Neil Mitchell says Tim Smith is a “dangerous idiot with appalling judgement” but there’s “bloodlust” among some enjoying his demise, and it’s unfair.

The disgraced Liberal MP is under pressure not to recontest the seat of Kew at the next election, after crashing his car into a Hawthorn home and returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.131 at the weekend.

In an interview with Neil Mitchell yesterday, Mr Smith dodged questions about how much he drank before the crash, and what Opposition Leader Matthew Guy had told him about his political future.

“He was trying to spin on how much he’d had to drink and what Matthew Guy had said to him,” Neil said today.

“His spin was a shocking error of judgement, his driving was a shocking error of judgement, and that if nothing else raises questions about his future in politics.”

But the 3AW Mornings host said there’s “bloodlust” around the Kew MP’s demise, and that’s “quite simply unfair”.

“Some in the media are just gloating,” he said.

“There is an indecent glee. That is not fair journalism.”
