Neil Mitchell voices concerns on journalism amid Walkley Foundation controversy
Neil Mitchell has voiced his concerns on the future of journalism, as the Walkley Foundation, the nation’s most prestigious media awards, come under fire for their sponsorship policy with Ampol and founder William Walkley’s racist comments from 62 years ago.
Many of the nation’s most celebrated cartoonists and journalists are considering boycotting the awards because of its strong ties to Ampol, who sell fossil fuels, but the 3AW Mornings took a different stance.
“Journalists are confusing their roles too often with being activists rather than observers and commentators,” the Walkley-award winning journalist said.
