Neil Mitchell has pleaded with Victoria’s teachers to hold off on any industrial action until at least the middle of next year.

They’re threatening strike action, according to the Australian Education Union, with claims teachers are “burned out” and stressed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The union said 97 per cent of members had supported the idea of industrial action to secure a new agreement.

“It can’t happen, not now,” Neil Mitchell said.

“The kids need you, the state needs you.”

The 3AW Mornings host said he had no doubt the past 18 months had been difficult for teachers.

“I am not arguing the issues, I am arguing the timing,” he said.
