Stan Grant has stepped down at the host of the ABC’s Q&A, citing a lack of management support following “relentless” racial abuse after he spoke about the impacts of colonisation ahead of King Charles III’s coronation.

Neil Mitchell says the ABC’s “moral authority” has been undermined and “its role must be questioned”.

“He has stepped down because of racial abuse and lack of support from ABC management. Now … I don’t blame him. I’ve got sympathy for him … Stan Grant is not the problem here,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

Independent federal MP and former ABC foreign correspondent, Zoe Daniel, says the incident “is pretty awful”.

“There does need to be a really deep look at what happened and what went wrong, and what that says about the broader culture in the organisation,” she told Neil Mitchell.
