Australians may be placing themselves under unnecessary stress by undergoing invasive tests and treatments, health experts have warned.

A new campaign  called Choosing Wisely has been launched amid concerns Australians are undoing more tests than they need to – wasting money and putting themselves at risk unnecessarily. 

Robin Lindner from NPS Medicinewise told 3AW Breakfast the campaign involves educating doctors with the latest guidelines and evidence. 

‘They can include things like changes in guidelines that doctors may not be aware of,’ she said.

‘Sometimes patients have an expectation that they want or need a test and sometimes it can be hard to dissuade them.’
